What is Career Services?

Definition:

Many students look for master´s degree or begin their professional race once they finish their bachelor degree.

Universities have a professional “career services” department that offers a wide variety of services to support and help students and alumni of the university in their incorporation into the labor market.

Can counselors give advice?

A counselor is the person at the “career services” office that helps students to choose a career, whether the student does not know what he wants to do or has not decided on a specific occupation. The “counselor” will use assessment tools to examine the abilities, personality and interests of the student and depending on the results will confirm if it is the right professional career for the student.

How to choose careers?

At the career services office you can find out and learn about different occupations. In addition, there are libraries in the offices that include information on the different careers and websites where you can also see everything online. Students will also be able to access a database of alumni who are willing to share their work experience with the current students.

How I can write a CV for a job?

The career services offices help their students to write their CVs and cover letters. They usually hold workshops and sessions where they give feedback and advice to prepare everything as best as possible.

Are job interviews hard?

The career services office sponsor workshops and sessions to prepare students in order to present themselves in the best possible way in a job interview. In many cases, mock interviews are conducted to practice the student’s skills.

How can I find a job?

Career offices maintain job listings and post part-time job offers for their students. The career services office also organize job fairs where large companies visit the university to recruit students just before graduating.

When should you start a master?

Students can access the employment portal of the university to see jobs, work internships and register for sessions with recruiters. They can also upload their CV in a database that makes the university available to recruiters. The career services office is the one that also guides the undergraduate students and informs them if the option of carrying out a postgraduate or master’s degree regarding their aspirations. They can also help students choose the appropriate master’s degree.
